You leave early in the morning and are back in the early evening. At Giants Castle Nature Reserve, an easy walk of about half an hour takes you to a sandstone cave with paintings made by the San people. A local guide explains what the paintings show and how they were made. The walk passes through grassland with views of the mountains and valleys. On the way back you stop in Howick to see the Howick Falls (KwaNogqaza), then visit the Nelson Mandela Capture Site, where Mandela was arrested by the apartheid police. The site has a museum and a sculpture made of steel columns that form his face when seen from the right spot. Entrance fees are included. Meals and drinks aren't.
