Recently voted as the new 7 wonders of Nature, this mountain was originally known as “Hoerikwaggo” in the Khoi language meaning “Mountain in the Sea”. The Khoisan people are known to be the first humankind who lived in Cape Town for many many years. The famous Table Mountain changed its name in 1503 when the Portuguese explorer, Antonio de Saldanha, hiked the mountain (the first recorded hike in history) and renamed it Tabao de Cabo (“table of the Cape”).
