Adventure activities in Cape Town

 Cape Town has mountains, ocean and sand dunes within an hour of the city centre, so there is plenty for anyone who wants an active day. Here are the activities our guests enjoy most, from easy to more demanding.

 On the mountain

 Hiking

 Table Mountain, Lion's Head and the Cape Peninsula have trails for most fitness levels.

 Lion's Head: about 1.5 to 2 hours up, with chains on the last section and 360-degree views. Popular at sunset.
 Table Mountain via Platteklip Gorge: a steep, direct climb of about 2 to 3 hours. Take the cable car down.
 Cape Point: shorter coastal walks with sea views, such as the path to the Cape of Good Hope.
 Go with others, carry water and a warm layer, and check the weather; the mountain changes quickly.

 Paragliding

 Tandem paragliding flights launch from Signal Hill or Lion's Head and land near Camps Bay or Clifton, with views over the Atlantic and the city. Flights depend on the wind, so keep a spare day.

 Zip lining

 Frequently asked questions

 When is the best time for adventure activities?

 Summer (December to February) is warmest, but the wind can be strong. Spring and autumn are good for hiking. Paragliding and boat trips depend on the weather on the day, so keep some flexibility.

 Do I need to be fit?

 Some activities, such as Platteklip Gorge, need good fitness. Others, such as zip lining, e-biking and whale watching, suit most people. Tell us your fitness level and we'll suggest options.

 Can I book a private adventure day?
